You should have a full service done once a year, even if you haven't used the vehicle frequently. Regular servicing ensures safety, maintains your manufacturer warranty, and catches small issues (like damp) before they turn into expensive disasters.
They focus on entirely different parts of your vehicle:
Habitation Service: Conducted on both caravans and motorhomes. It focuses on the living area, checking gas safety, electrical systems (12V and 230V), water systems, and looking for damp.
Mechanical Service: Conducted only on motorhomes. It focuses on the engine, chassis, brakes, suspension, and overall roadworthiness—just like a standard car service.
Water ingress is the silent killer of leisure vehicles. If water gets into the framework, it causes rot and structural failure. A damp check uses a specialised moisture meter to detect hidden leaks early, saving you thousands in major reconstruction costs.
