EHU Cable

When using an electric hook-up (EHU) on your travels, always ensure you fully unwind the entire cable before plugging it in, even if the power source is right next to your pitch. As electricity flows through the wire, it naturally generates a small amount of heat due to electrical resistance.

If the cable remains tightly coiled on its reel or in a pile, that heat becomes trapped between the layers of wire with nowhere to escape. The concentrated temperatures can quickly build up and melt the protective plastic insulation surrounding the wires, leading to a dangerous short circuit or an electrical fire. Laying the full length of the cable out loosely allows the surrounding air to naturally dissipate the heat, keeping your setup safe.
